A pirate's life was pretty pitiful. A pirate endured horrible food such as tack, which was a hard cracker.
Good drinking water was scarce, too, with the average pirate only allowed to drink a quart a day. A pirate lived with
horrible odors such as the smell of rotten food and the smelly water that collected at the bottom of the boat. Disease
was also common due to not getting proper vitamins in their food. The pirate's living quarters was infested with rats
and bugs. Boredom was common. Pirates would sing shanties or songs to entertain themselves. If a pirate
was believed to have done wrong, he was often marooned on an island with only a gun and a little water, where he usually
died due to the lack of food. Pirate life was definitely not as glamorous as it was portrayed.
