Facts about the continent of Africa:

Africa is the second-largest continent in the world. You could fit China, India, Europe, Argentina, New Zealand and the mainland of the United states in this continent. There are 53 countries in Africa and more than 1,000 languages are spoken there. It is estimated that around 800 million people live in Africa.

Africa is home to the Nile, the longest river in the world, flowing through Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt. Lake Malawi in Africa has more kinds of fish in it than any other lake in the world, over 500 types. Africa is also home to the Sahara desert, the world's largest desert, and the world's oldest desert, the Sudan.

Africa is also home to some of the most fascinating animals in the world. Four of the five fastest land animals live in Africa – the cheetah, which can run at an amazing 70 miles per hour, wildebeest, lion, and gazelle.
